The Ancient Offering of the First Fruits
Text: Deuteronomy 26: 1-11
Reflection and Question: When the Hebrews dedicate the first fruits of the year to God, they are to remember that God brought them out of Egypt to a fertile land. As the Brief Statement of Faith says, “Hearing their cry, God delivered the children of Israel from the house of bondage.” When have you given thanks for your freedom and bounty?
Prayer: Eternal God, with the ancient Hebrews and all people whom You have released from bondage and brought to a fertile land, we celebrate the bounty You have given to us and to our house. Amen.
The Brief Statement of Faith (1983) is one of the historic documents that guide our faith in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
